When Does A Tree Need To Be Removed?

What Are The Signs That A Tree Should Come Down?

Why Does Access Affect Price More Than Height?

Height is usually the first thing people mention when asking about tree removal, and it tells us surprisingly little. What actually matters is what sits underneath the tree and how close our truck can get to it.

A tree in an open yard comes down in large sections, which keeps tree removal straightforward. The same tree beside a house on a narrow older lot, with fences on both sides and only a front path to carry everything out through, takes several times as long. That is true of every tree removal we quote, regardless of species.

Why Are Dead Ash Trees More Expensive To Remove?

An ash that has been dead for a couple of seasons is a harder tree removal job, because the wood becomes too brittle to climb safely. It tends to break at the branch unions rather than along the limb, and those unions are exactly where a climber's rope or a rigging line puts its heaviest load.

Once climbing is no longer an option, tree removal needs a bucket truck instead, and bringing that equipment onto a property costs more than a climb. The longer a dead ash is left standing, the fewer options remain for taking it down safely.

What Should Be Planted After A Tree Is Removed?

Choosing tree removal is a practical decision, and it is worth deciding what will replace the tree while we are still on site to talk it through.

Plant in the fall where possible, water the new tree through its first two summers, and keep it away from fresh wood chips, since rotting chips draw nitrogen out of the soil around them.
